“God invented war so Americans would learn geography.” (M Twain)
This quote is great on so many levels, pointing to the futility of war and to the illusions that have been created around this tragic concept (freedom! responsibility! democracy!). It reminds me greatly of the times we live in, in which we are further and further deluded into the necessity of taking away self-determination and free will for the sake of….what exactly?

If there is one thing that I’m getting better at, it’s to see and connect with my own inner conflicts. What usually would’ve been more of a diffuse sense of resistance, me resisting myself, now becomes clearer as different parts inside of myself feeling at odds about a situation, occurrence, or relationship. These days I feel like a veil is lifted; not instantaneously but surely. There are moments in which I look at a familiar scenery or person before me and it feels that for the first time I see reality as is - clear, pure, and momentary. (…)

I write these lines around July 4th, celebrating Independence Day for the first time as a US-citizen. I continue to honor the occasion as a day of celebration for the society I live in and yet I very little resonate with the socio-political interpretation of independence (as in synonymously used with freedom), sensing that in so many ways American society is absolutely not independent/free. I’ve known for some time now that identifications and entanglements, especially with parents, have prevented me from being who I really am. This concept however remains abstract and cognitive as long as I haven’t looked at my earliest experiences in relationship to my mother and father. (…)
